Niamh S This film was so boring, I was waiting for the exciting end of the world scene which I was sure was going to be at the end. However I was left underwhelmed and upset, so upset in fact I signed up to this website just to say how terrible it is. I want the two hours of my life back. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review Brian H Warning that this movie is NOT for the plot obsessed. The end of the movie doesn’t explicitly solve the question of the nature of the threat to society, which only seems to be the plot point, although more on that later. Rather, the real point of the movie is to explore the possible relationships that can develop when people face a massive external threat. To explore these relationships, the movie is one long survival trial, which introduces an array of characters representing a variety of ways that people might interact. Will and Tom (Forest Whitaker doing his usual excellent job) cooperate to attempt to save Will’s fiance / Tom’s daughter. Ricki joins with Will and Tom to escape the poverty and oppression she knows on the reservation, but leaves them after she can’t accept the “morality” of murder that Will and Tom are willing to commit. Along the way, some towns band together to protect the town while roving makeshift gangs seek to take advantage of random travelers. One traveling family stops and picks up Will from sheer altruism, which ends up benefitting them. Finally Will and Sam are reunited but are forced to resume fleeing from the disaster. And that’s “How it Ends.” BTW, it seems pretty obvious to me that the cause of the disaster is a massive series of volcanic eruptions along the west coast where there actually is active volcanoes. This cause explains the earthquakes, the tsunami, the burning down of coastal cities, the poisonous air, the weather effects, and the eruption seen at the end. So, it really isn’t an “unexplained disaster.” They just didn’t spoon-feed it to the audience. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review John W Beyond low budget, shocking how incoherent the story is. As if it was all improvised by a child that didn’t do their homework. I can’t express how many times i needed to stop watching and question its questionable “plot twists”. This lack of realism is nothing short of lazy writing, an attempt to combine action, intrigue, apocalypse and family. When they said “How it ends” i guess they meant the script writers’ career. This movie is thousands of little conflicts forced together as one incoherent mess. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Aaron M So so so bad. Bad cheesy acting, dumb ending. Plot is interesting but it’s not even worth a watch since it was so terribly made. Nothing is explained and the whole journey there is so stupid. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review David H I can’t understand the poor reviews for this movie. It’s certainly an unusual apocalypse movie. Much is left to the imagination. But it’s subtle and thought-provoking. Great cinematography too. Maybe I’m just weird. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Luke R This was beyond cheesy, but not in a good way, wasted of time.
